Caprafi automatically maintains current exchange rates to convert your multi-currency portfolio into your base currency for accurate reporting and analysis.
Why Exchange Rates Matter
If you hold assets in multiple currencies (USD, EUR, GBP, etc.), you need accurate exchange rates to:

How We Update Rates
Automatic Daily Updates
Caprafi fetches exchange rates automatically once per day from reliable market data sources. Rates are typically updated during European business hours to capture the previous day's closing rates.
Historical Data
When you first set up your workspace, we backfill 24 months of historical exchange rate data. This enables:
- Accurate historical valuations
- Performance calculations over time
- Currency impact analysis for past periods

How Conversion Works
Base Currency
Your workspace has a configured base currency (e.g., NOK). All portfolio totals, charts, and reports convert foreign currencies to this base.
Conversion Example
If you own:
- 100,000 USD in assets
- Base currency is NOK
- Exchange rate is 10.50 NOK/USD
Your asset value displays as: 1,050,000 NOK
Historical Valuations
When viewing historical data, Caprafi uses the exchange rate that was effective on that date, not today's rate. This provides accurate point-in-time portfolio values.

- Current Rates - Today's conversion rates to your base currency
- Rate History - Charts showing how rates have changed over time
- Major Pairs - Quick reference for common currency conversions
Currency Impact on Portfolio
Exchange rate changes affect your portfolio value even when asset prices remain stable:
